Florida VIN Verification by a Notary in Jacksonville
Bringing a used vehicle to Florida? To title it here, you usually need Form HSMV 82042, Vehicle Identification Number and Odometer Verification, and a Florida notary can complete the VIN verification. I come to your home or office in Duval, St. Johns, Clay and Nassau Counties, so you don't have to take the vehicle anywhere.
When You Need It
According to the form, it is completed for used motor vehicles, including trailers of 2,000 pounds or more, that are not currently titled in Florida. It is not used for new vehicles, mobile homes, lighter trailers, travel or camp trailers, or off-highway vehicles.
How It Works
1. You fill in Part A: the owner records the VIN, vehicle details and odometer reading and signs the affidavit.
2. I inspect the vehicle: the form requires a physical check of the VIN under the windshield and in the door jamb (the motor number for vehicles made before 1955).
3. I complete Part B: I confirm the numbers match, then sign and seal the verification.
4. You take it to the tax collector: the form is submitted to your local tax collector office with your title application.
Before Your Appointment
• Download Form HSMV 82042 and fill in Part A.
• Have the vehicle where I can reach the windshield VIN and the driver's door jamb.
• Have your photo ID ready.
Important
I'm a notary public, not an attorney or a tax collector employee. I verify the VIN on the form; the tax collector decides your title application.
