Online Notary for Signers Outside the U.S.: Foreign Passport Accepted

Living, working or traveling abroad and need a document notarized? I'm a Florida Remote Online Notary. You sign by secure video from any country, and if you're outside the U.S. you can use your foreign passport as your ID.

Can a Florida Notary Notarize for Me in Another Country?

Yes. Under Florida law, an online notary physically located in Florida may notarize for a signer anywhere, and the notarization is governed by Florida law (s. 117.209(3) and s. 117.265(1), Florida Statutes).
Whether a particular office, bank or country accepts a Florida online notarization is up to them, so please check with whoever will receive your document before your session.

ID: Foreign Passport and Biometric Check

• Outside the U.S.: Florida law allows a passport issued by a foreign government, even without a U.S. immigration (USCIS) stamp, when the signer is not located in the United States (s. 117.201(6)).
• Inside the U.S.: a foreign passport must carry a USCIS stamp, or you can use another accepted ID such as a U.S. or Canadian driver license (s. 117.05(5)(b)2.).
• Identity check: Florida requires an automated check of your ID plus identity proofing (s. 117.265(4)). Florida law recognizes biometric verification as a form of identity proofing (s. 117.201(7)). My online notary platform uses a face match with liveness detection, so you don't need to answer U.S. credit-history questions.

If Your Document Needs Witnesses

Witnesses can be physically with you, or join by video. A witness who joins by video must confirm they are physically located in the United States or a U.S. territory (s. 117.285(4)). I can provide witnesses for your session.

Will Your Document Need an Apostille?

Many countries ask for an apostille on a notarized document. For a document I notarize, the apostille is issued by the Florida Department of State, and I can handle the request for you. See Documents for Use Abroad, Apostille for Mexico and Apostille for the Philippines.

What You Need

• Your document as a PDF, fully prepared and unsigned.
• Your current passport or other accepted ID.
• A computer or phone with a camera, microphone and a steady internet connection.
• Need it in another language? See Document Translations.

Your Session Is Recorded

Florida requires the video session to be recorded, and the recording and electronic journal are kept for at least 10 years (s. 117.245(4)).

Fees

$25 for the first notarial act and $5 for each additional notarial act in the same session, plus $15 per witness if I provide them. Florida law limits the fee to $25 per online notarial act (s. 117.275).

Important

I'm a notary public, not an attorney. I can't prepare your document, tell you what it should say, or tell you whether another country will accept it. For those questions, please talk to an attorney or the office receiving your document.
